Hector Rosario grew up and lived in Hammond until I graduated Hammond High School in 1998. He then attended Indiana University Northwest where I studied Criminal Justice. During the summer of 1998, he moved in with his Grandparents in East Chicago on Deodar Street in the City’s Harbor Section. He began working for the East Chicago Police Department as a Police Cadet at the age of 18. As a cadet, he worked within the different bureaus and offices of the department from 1998 to 2001. At the age of 21, he became a Police/Fire/EMS emergency 911 dispatcher for the City of East Chicago for approximately a year. At the age of 22, he tested and passed the test to become an East Chicago Police Officer. He later attended the Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (NILEA). After graduating the academy, he was assigned to the Patrol Division from 2002 until 2014. During those 12 years in patrol, he achieved the rank of Master Patrolman. In 2014 until 2015, they assigned Hector the role of Intelligence Officer for the department. In 2015, Officer Rosario tested and passed the Sergeant promotional exam given by the Merit Board. Shortly after, he was promoted and reassigned as shift Sergeant in the patrol division until 2017. In January of 2017, he was reassigned to the position of Sergeant in the IT department. Sergeant Rosario held that position until March 2018. Sergeant Hector Rosario was then appointed the position of Assistant Chief by Honorable Mayor Anthony Copeland & Police Chief Frank Smith. He was later appointed the Chief of Police for the City of East Chicago.
