- Per state requirement, this office does NOT accept the temporary print out the BMV issues as an ID. You must wait for your ID to come to you or provide three alternative documents with your identity.
What the new registry system means for you.
State has implemented a new registry system and some East Chicago birth records may not be immediately available.
Protect Against Online Theft
There are many fraudulent websites claiming to order and send your birth certificate! We always recommend contacting the Vital Record Division of your birth county for online ordering before you place any order. Do not take it upon yourself to trust any website without clear instruction from local or state Vital Records.

No cash payments accepted for any services at the Health Department.
We accept money orders, cashier’s checks or debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express).
Card payments must be in your own name presented with valid ID.
Make sure you are Real ID compliant by October 1, 2021.
Please note the local health department does not accept the temporary paper ID the BMV issues for birth certificate applications. You will need a valid driver’s license, valid state ID, or three alternative documents of identification to apply for certificates.
