This Department is responsible for ensuring that local landlords, business owners, and food handlers provide safe, clean, habitable environments for East Chicago residents. 

As part of all service industries including restaurant, cafeteria, daycare, or food preparation industry a Food Handler Card and TB test is required. For TB and food handler card information please call the Health Department for scheduling, (219) 391-8467.

Inspectors investigate calls and complaints about food and environmental contamination in both commercial and residential settings.
